Social Impact

As a leading provider of hospice care in the Palm Springs area, Desert Care Hospice has been serving the surrounding communities.

With the patient and the family at the center of what we do, we continuously find ways for everyone involved to learn more about end-of-life care.

We offer outreach programs to help educate the community about the various issues and resources surrounding hospice care—caregiver resources, grief support, memorials, planning, and veteran support among others.

We hope that through these programs, it will create a social impact that will benefit the community for a long time.

Bereavement and Grief Support

Desert Care Hospice is a leading provider of comprehensive, competent and compassionate care for individuals who are in the advanced phase of life-limiting illnesses.

The death of a loved one is devastating. The grief that comes with it can be an isolating experience as each of us copes with loss differently.

At Desert Care Hospice, we understand your journey of grief. We offer grief support to help you understand and cope with grief. Our licensed counselors, social workers and trained volunteers will help you deal with loss and adjustment after death

Having people who went through the same loss and grief experience is also important, as they can offer a supportive environment. Grief support groups learn from each other, and comfort each other.

To ensure that we can provide the best possible service, we only get the most-experienced and highly-trained hospice nurses, home health aides, hospice social workers, therapists, bereavement counselors, physicians, and volunteers.

Our people see to it that patients and families always come first, and making sure that every interaction allows for a deeper understanding of the patients’ needs.

Memorial Ceremony

Desert Care Hospice offers an annual memorial ceremony wherein we celebrate the lives of those patients we had the opportunity of taking care of.

Honoring and remembering the lives of our departed loved ones gives the surviving family not only the chance to reflect on the pleasant memories, but also to acknowledge and reconnect with the Desert Care Hospice team who diligently cared for their loved ones.

We invite the families, caregivers and loved ones to join us in this special gathering. You may contact us for the dates and locations.

Advance Care Planning

Health impacts everyone at any time. However, only a few people think about their future healthcare needs, much less, actively plan for it. They don’t realize the importance of putting into writing their wishes on how they want to be taken care of when a medical crisis happens.

Instead of leaving their treatment option to others, advance care planning allows people to decide–in advance–on what type of healthcare they want to receive when the time comes that they are too sick or incapacitated to decide for themselves.

Discuss your wishes for the kind of care that you want or don’t want. When your wishes are clear, healthcare providers are able to create a plan of care that meets both treatment and quality of life goals. This will give you and your loved ones the peace of mind to focus on other things that matter.

Veteran Support

Our veterans have committed their lives in protecting our country. But the many years of their selfless service will begin to take its toll on their physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual well-being as they approach end-of-life.

Desert Care Hospice recognizes the service and sacrifices of our veterans. We are committed to honoring them by providing comprehensive, competent and compassionate care.

Desert Care Hospice partnered with We Honor Veterans, a national program designed to help hospice professionals to address the unique needs of veterans. Among the concerns facing our veterans are:

  • Health issues such as exposure to Agent Orange, infectious diseases, and trench foot
  • Mental health concerns such as Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), depression, and substance abuse
  • Psychosocial issues, impact on family and relationships
  • Military culture
  • Accessing benefits from the Veteran Affairs (VA) office

The Desert Care Hospice team has gone through special training to be able to address these issues. We are also working closely with our local VA medical centers to make sure the best quality and continuity of care is given across institutions.

Desert Care Hospice can also provide memorial ceremonies and salutes in recognition of the invaluable service of our beloved veterans.

Hospice care for veterans is covered by Medicare, Medicaid, and other forms of reimbursements. If you are interested to avail of Desert Care Hospice program for veterans, please contact us at (760) 318-0668.
